Husqvarna Soff-Cut® saws and diamond blades for ultra-early sawing of concrete joints

Husqvarna Soff-Cut® is a system developed for ultra-early sawing of contraction joints after pouring concrete slabs. It’s the optimal solution for minimising the risk of random cracking, which is one of the most costly and aggravating problems faced by a concrete contractor. The main benefits are the high production rates combined with the opportunity to pour and cut the same day. And the straight, shallow cuts with sharp edges guarantee a good-looking result.

“With Soff-Cut® you can start cutting the contraction joints just one hour after finishing!”

Control random cracking with a shallow cut – just one hour after pouring

The Soff-Cut® Ultra Early Entry™ dry-cutting system minimises the risk of random cracks in concrete. The Soff-Cut® system is the optimal way to control random cracking, by cutting control joints as part of the finishing process, within the green zone. With ultra-early entry cutting you can control cracking in slabs up to 9 inches thick, with only a 1-inch minimum depth.

The problem

As concrete hydrates and begins to set, it develops internal stresses. The objective in controlling shrinkage cracking is to relieve these stresses before they seek their own relief in the form of random cracks.

The solution

With the Husqvarna Soff-Cut® Ultra Early Entry™ dry-cutting system, joints are sawn in the green zone – within the first hour or two after finishing. The Husqvarna Soff-Cut® technology is based on the combination of the Soff-Cut® blade and skid plate. The up-cutting rotation of the blade combines with the skid plate, which applies pressure to the surface to prevent chipping and spalling. Soff-Cut® allows you to cut in the green zone as part of the finishing process, to effectively control shrinkage cracking

A closer look at early entry cutting

1. The system centres on making Ultra Early Entry™ cuts during the concrete’s green zone. Only the Soff-Cut® system allows the contractor to place control joints when the concrete is looking for relief the most, during the first two hours after finishing and before final set, which is the green zone.

2. As the concrete is finished and begins to set, it starts to hydrate and internal stress builds up, which can cause the concrete to crack.

3. The green zone is the window of opportunity to cut the concrete before it has a chance to seek relief on its own in the form of a random crack, between the initial set and the final set. It’s all about the timing of the cut.
4. To optimise cutting in the green zone, Soff-Cut® saws are equipped with a blade block, an anti-ravel skid plate and a Soff-Cut® diamond blade. This combination distinguishes the Ultra Early Entry™ system from other early-entry saws. The skid plate easily attaches to the two spring-loaded pistons at the bottom of the blade block.

5. The unique blade block design keeps pressure on the surface of the concrete while the blade cuts. Like all saws the cutting depth will fluctuate as the diamond blade cuts to aggregate. However unlike other saws the design of the blade block pistons allows the skid plate to always maintain proper pressure on the concrete, ensuring a quality cut.

6. Using this system eliminates random cracking. Stress is relieved every time below the cut, exactly where the contractor wants it to. Cutting in the green zone allows a shallower cut, which achieves a greater aggregate interlock for a stronger slab, and minimises the amount of joint filler that might be needed.

Husqvarna diamond tools developed for intense professional use in specialist applications. Provide maximum cutting speed and wear resistance in heavy cutting. All Soff-Cut® XL blades belong to this quality class.

0% downtime, 100% satisfaction – that’s our aim

A high production rate is not only about the method of early entry cutting or the performance of the machine. It’s also about uptime. And key for maximum uptime is fast, knowledgeable and customer-oriented support. This is why Husqvarna offers a global service network with a strong local presence.

At our customer and service centres you meet highly skilled staff. And when you need a diamond tool, new equipment, technical service or expert advice, Husqvarnas service is just a phone call away.

“We run Husqvarna equipment because of the support”

Joe Johnson, Texas cutting & coring, Austin
You want equipment that makes your job easier. It should be easy to load and unload, withstand rough handling, be easy to install and remove, and of course be smooth and efficient to use. Diamond tools and equipment should be matched to each other and help you get your job done quickly, efficiently and profitably.
At Husqvarna when we develop our products we don’t only focus on brute strength. We see the user, machine and diamond tool as a single unit, seeking an optimal balance of power and usability. Minimising setup time always means maximising the productive time.
