5.1 General inspection

Regular checkpoints

These are the most important parts of your power cutter to inspect, to find out if any parts need to be tightened, cleaned, repaired or replaced.

Check screws and bolts. Tighten them if necessary.

Check the drive belt and, if necessary, tighten it.

Check the spark plug. If it is defective, replace it.

If you feel your machine losing power, replace the air filter.

Test all controls. For instance, ensure that the throttle trigger doesn’t get stuck in the depressed position.

Check that the blade guard is in good condition and is easily adjustable.

Check the anti-vibration elements and make sure that they are in good condition.

5.2 External cleaning

Take good care of your power cutter.

Clean your power cutter when you’re finished for the day. Flush the machine with water and dry with a clean cloth.

5.5 Changing the drive belt

The drive belt is exposed to wear and needs to be replaced occasionally; of course this depends on how much you use the power cutter. Watch the video above on how to change the drive belt or read the instructions to the right.

Turn the belt tensioner to the “0" position to release the tension.
Loosen the three nuts on the front belt guard completely and remove the front belt guard. For the K 970 16" there is a screw holding the belt guard that must be loosen and removed.
Loosen the two screws holding the rear belt guard and remove the belt guard.
Change the belt and set tensioner to position “1”
Tighten the two screws to the rear belt guard
Tighten the three nuts on the front belt guard finger tight.
Wiggle the blade guard up and down 3-5 times.
Tighten the three nuts with the combination spanner.

5.6 Tensioning the drive belt

Loosen the three nuts on the front belt guard one turn counter clockwise.
Wiggle the blade guard up and down 3-5 times.
Tighten the three nuts again with the combination spanner.

5.7 Changing the air filter

How to change the air filter on your power cutter

Loosen the four screws on the filter cover and remove it.
Never clean the air filter with compressed air or a vacuum cleaner! This will damage the filter.
Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the filter compartment area from dust.
Loosen the plastic screw on top of the filter by hand.
Remove the filter and dispose it.
Install a new air filter. Always use Husqvarna original parts.
Tighten the filter screw all the way down by hand.
Put the filter cover back again and tighten screws.

Loosen the three screws on the filter cover and remove it.

remove the filter holder complete with the filter
Remove the filter by pressing the locksteps on the side of the filter.
Never claen the air filter with compressed air or a vaccum cleaner! This will damage the filter.
Usa a vaccum cleaner to clean the filter compartment area from dust.
Insert a new filter in the filter holder and make sure it snaps in place. Always use Husqvarna original parts.
Install the filter holder with the filter in the machine again and tighten the two screws.
Put the filter cover back again and tighten the three screws.

5.8 Changing the fuel filter

Loosen the fuel cap and remove by pull it out. Make sure the fuel tank is empty.
Use the service tool to hook the fuel hose with the fuel filter end.
Pull back the metal ring and remove the filter. A clogged fuel filter can not be cleaned.
Install a new filter and pull over the metal ring.
Pull the fuel filter with hose in the fuel tank and reinstall the fuel cap.
