MANN GROUP Vic Chooses Husqvarna DXR

16/04/2021

Mann Group Vic were set the complex task of the redevelopment of the heritage listed Nylex Sign and Richmond Maltings, which included the demolition of seven silos and surrounding buildings, removal of hazardous material and retention of nominated heritage fabric. The demolition method used for this project was the first of its kind to be utilised in Australia.

The project included the following key challenges:

  • Geographical limitations restricting the plant reach and maximum heights achievable
  • Demolition sequence to ensure the retained heritage silos and iconic Nylex Clock were not damaged.
  • Custom-made working platforms with weight restrictions.
  • Maximum allowable vibration frequency through retained heritage silos to minimise potential damage
  • Minimum four metre reach radius to ensure program was met.

The Husqvarna DXR 300 Remote Controlled Robot was found to be the most efficient and ergonomic item on the market to meet these challenging requirements.

As always, safety is the most important focus for Mann Group Vic. The Husqvarna DXR Remote Controlled Robot enabled all the demolition works to take place while enabling the operator to maintain a safe working  distance. The safe perimeter scaffolding operating  location enabled the DXR operators to have a clear line of site, despite the top of the silos being 45 metres above ground level, while drawing out the maximum productivity from the DXR. This eliminated the operators need to be working from suspended working platforms at heights, further increasing the safety for those on site.

The start and completion dates for this project were met with great satisfaction for all parties involved. Even with many sporadic weather delays, Mann Group Vic was able to complete the project on time, which is a testament of the hard work of all involved in the middle of the recent health pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.

The Husqvarna DXR robot played a pivotal role in this project by satisfying the concerns raised around safety and  meeting the stringent heritage protections for the retained historic silos and iconic Nylex Clock.
